From the Principal

From The Principal – Fortnightly updates

The last newsletter of the Year! A big thank you to everyone in our school community who has helped make this year an outstanding one. I hope that you have a great holiday and festive season.

2020 is going to be another great year moving forward. We will be starting a new Business Plan cycle, undergoing our first external review of our practices in Term 4.

Staffing

We undertook a long and comprehensive process for the Year 2 position and we are happy to be welcoming the new teacher to staff. I am unable to name until the Breach period closes this week.

There will be a new Kindy teacher joining us for Term 1.  Mrs Oliver will be taking Kindy B (the end of the week class).  Mrs Fuller will be back for Term 1 with the other Year 2 class and there has been a small change with Mr Kellow moving to share the Rm10 class with Mrs Sutton and Mrs Thomas will be sharing the Rm1 class with Ms Thomson.

The transition day was a great success and I thank the staff for their efforts at this tiring point of the year.

If we get a run of enrolments at the start of the year, there is a possibility that we may have to put on a new class. This would then entail moving some students around.

Reports

Reports go home this Wednesday afternoon via Connect. For most students this has been a positive process and I hope parents find this information useful.

Christmas Concert

It was a lovely way to end the year with our first Christmas Concert. The students did a fantastic job  and sounded great. A huge thank you to Mrs Sutton for coordinating this major event at such a busy time of the year.

Board Awards

This year the School Board instigated a new initiative. The Annual Board Awards celebrated a few people who stood out this year. There were many worthy nominations from the community.  Our member for Jandakot, Yaz Mubarakai kindly donated a $50 gift voucher as prizes for each of the award winners.

Congratulations to the winners:

Improvement of Student Performance – Ruth Sutton

The LPS choir took massive effort this year and provided an experience for the students that they will not forget.  Mrs Sutton has run a fantastic music programme this year that has benefited many students.

STEM – Tanya Warman

Mrs Warman has worked well beyond her allotted hours to provide a rich science experience. She has made herself familiar with all levels of the curriculum and has also provided extra experiences through outside agencies.

Community Champion – Michelle Redman

Mrs Redman volunteers her time tirelessly. An example of this is the numerous hours she puts into the Scholastic Book Club. Michelle works passionately for the P&C including special days, fundraising and  volunteering in the canteen; Michelle is always cheerful and kind.

Values Champion – Amanda Murray

Ms Murray was nominated for the caring way she has worked with students this year.  She has developed a culture of excellence among her students and treats every student with respect.

Bull Creek Tennis Club visit

In week 8 this term we had Eddy and Tallulah from Bull Creek Tennis Club come and run some Hot Shots Tennis lessons for the students in years 1 to 6. The students were taught ball and racket skills and got the chance to play some small sided singles and doubles games in their classes. They all enjoyed the chance to have a go at tennis. I think we’ve got some future tennis stars coming up. Each student was given a note about tennis lessons if your child is interested in keeping up the tennis.

Thank you,

Miss Holsgrove
