Staff Car Park

Please be advised that the staff carpark off Meharry Road is for the use of staff only and is not to be used for pick up and drop-off of students, with the exception of families requiring to use the Accessible Car Parking Bay (ACPB).  Please use the car bays along the front of the school and surrounding areas for student pick-up / drop off.   Also please remember that the speed limit in a school zone is 40km/hour.

The service driveway off Westminster Road is for delivery vehicles and those requiring use of the Accessible Car Parking Bay at the rear of the school.  Please be aware that such vehicles require a large turning circle therefore this area should not be obstructed at any time.

Thank you for your consideration.

From The Principal

Hopefully by now everyone has had a smooth introduction to the world of Connect. The schools usage will evolve and we are happy to take constructive feedback to improve as we go. We are still working to bring the Kindergarten classes on line.

It should improve our communication with parents and your ability to keep track of news and events. The website will receive updates as required and a ‘major’ update every fortnight. This will be signalled by Connect and will take over most of the tasks of the old newsletter.

One of the first items that teachers are posting is their ‘Welcome to School” package. These should answer the majority of questions that you may have about your child’s class.

Reporting to Parents – Term 1

In the past the school has used the information night in Term 1 as it’s ‘reporting to parents’ tool. This year we are making a change, ‘welcome to the year’ information is now available on Connect. In place of the information night we will be holding a ‘short’ interview night on Wednesday 4 April. We are still working out the finer details but the plan will be something like 3:15 pm – 5:30 pm with 5 minute windows. It will not be an opportunity for an in depth discussion, but to touch base. Teachers will be asked to prepare one area that the student can improve in. Parents will be asked to book in and respect the timing. Some parents may have their window offered to them at an alternative time to give all families the opportunity to meet.

Although 5 minutes is not a long time it should be sufficient to update you on your child’s progress and highlight an area that could be improved. There will be enough time before the Semester 1 reports for improvement to be shown. At this stage we are planning that the students will not be present.

More information will be provided shortly.

Thanking You

 Clive

Access To Digital Media

Over the past few years Leeming Primary School has introduced two online applications into the school, these are Literacy Planet and Mathletics.

Once the students have paid their minimum Digital Media fee of $30.00 to the front office, we then encourage all our students to make use of these online resources which can be accessed from school or home.

This not only coincides with our school laptop programme but also enhances our commitment to the Australian Curriculum addressing Literacy, Numeracy and Information Communication Competence.

MATHLETICS  http://au.mathletics.com/

This is a programme to develop core basic skills in Numeracy and allows diversity in each classroom, enabling the teacher to target specific aspects of the Australian Curriculum to meet the individual student’s needs. It is also an invaluable assessment and supplemental tool to support teachers in the classroom.

Students have home access as well for extra support and this makes learning Numeracy more enjoyable.

LITERACY PLANET     http://www.literacyplanet.com/au/

This programme covers Literacy – Pre Reading words, Phonics, Sight Words, Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Grammar and Punctuation. It has been developed to support the Australian Curriculum and has a structured learning journey which takes children through sequenced comprehensive literacy content with feedback once the exercise has been completed.

Please consider making this payment as soon as possible so that the “Log-On’s and Passwords” can be given to the students to maximise their usage at school and at home.

Payment can be made by cash, cheque, EFTPOS, credit card or bank transfer to the school bank account as per details below.

2018 School and P&C Contributions and Charges

Please note that we are currently taking payments for 2018 School and P&C Contributions and Charges

Statements were recently mailed out to families and these showed all current billing items and included any  credit from the previous year or payments made in advance at the end of 2017.

Parents are welcome to pay the remaining “Additional charges” upfront if they wish.  If you need any assistance with calculating the correct amount please contact the office by phone or email. If you have paid the upfront levy you are still required to sign and return any permission notes where applicable to authorise allocation of student credit to a particular activity.

Alternatively parents are able to pay the additional costs as they arise.

Permission notes for activities can be found on the Leeming PS website and you are encouraged to check the website regularly to ensure that notes/payments are returned by the due date. If you are making payments by cash please ensure the money is the CORRECT amount as change cannot always be given immediately.

Leeming Primary School Parents Staying Connected

Thank you to one of our parents who has created an information sheet on how parents can stay connected to what’s happening at our school. Click here for a printable PDF copy

The following suggestions are a great way to stay in touch.

Regularly review the Leeming Primary School Website – leemingps.wa.edu.au .On the opening page, the recent news feeds and upcoming events are a great reminder of things to do and things to come.

Leeming Primary School is now using  CONNECT. You will receive email or push notifications weekly with latest updates from teachers and admin.  So that you don’t receive duplicate notifications make sure you update your preferences/settings when you log into connect.  There is also some helpful user guides in the Library tab on the Connect Site.

Join the Leeming Primary School Parents Facebook Group – Accessible to all current Leeming Primary School students, parents and caregivers. It is a fun and friendly forum, which shares school and P&C related information.  It is completely independent from school operations and administered by two parents from the school.

Every year group in 2018 has a dedicated Facebook Page, for example Kindy Caregivers, Year 1 Caregivers and so on.  Again the groups are independent from school operations and administered (generally) by the year group classroom representatives.

The links to join the various groups are located at the top of the Leeming Primary School Parents Facebook Page, in a pinned post at the top of the discussion.

As the Facebook groups are closed to people other than parents and caregivers, you will need to request to join the Facebook Groups, and provide your child(ren)’s name and class to gain access.

We hope that you join the relevant Facebook Groups soon, but please note that if you prefer not to participate on the Facebook platform, it may be worth mentioning it to your classroom representative, so they are able to keep you in the loop of any other non official school information and events that would be of benefit and interest to you.

Please also remember any communication on the Facebook platform is to adhere to the school parent’s rights and responsibilities charter – to always be respectful, courteous and honest.
