From The Principal

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope that you had a super holiday and are recharged for Term 3. My wife and I were lucky enough to have a super holiday and spent a week hiking up and down the hills and volcanoes of Reunion Island. My French is better than it has ever been, but is still very poor!

School Board

Following Charlotte Bramanis’ departure, we have a vacancy  on the School Board.

This term we have planned camp for the Year 5 students. It will be the last camp at Point Peron as they will be closing at the end of this year.

Camp is a great opportunity for the students to develop independence skills as well as develop cooperation. The reason we hold camp in Year 5 is to get the benefits from camp for a year and a half before the students head off to high school.

Camp is great for the students, but extra time and work for the staff. As such it is not guaranteed every year. Please make sure that the students thank the teachers involved at the end of camp!

As we are a ‘Digital Technology’ school it is important that we stay skilled in all areas relating to technology. This includes the Safety aspect and this year we are running sessions from a provider that has been accredited by the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner.

  • Cyber Safety (Primary and Secondary)

Accredited by the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner

    • Safe use of Social Media
    • Security & Privacy explained
    • Examples of Scams and how to avoid
    • Digital Reputation dos & don’ts
    • Cyberbullying (including what it means to be a bystander and active participant)
    • How Stranger Danger works and how to avoid

Student Edge will be visiting the school on Wednesday 1 August

The junior primary Cyber Safety program will be at 11:40 am, the senior primary program at 2:00 pm, and the staff/parent program at 3:15pm. I encourage all families to make the most of this opportunity. Please try and send a representative to the parents’ session so that we can all remain up to date on this important topic.

Representative events

This term we have the Athletics Carnival in Week 10. Following the School’s Cross country event last Friday, Ms Sharrock and I will pick a team to represent the school at the State Interschool Championships on  Friday 10 August.

Following on from the Orienteering that Rooms 1 and 3 participated in last term, the school will be providing a team to represent the school at the State Orienteering Championships on Wednesday 22 August.

On 3 August Mr D’Mello will be taking an Open team to represent the school at the Glory Cup.

Last Term we held a speaking competition for senior students. The students prepared well and there was a high standard. The top three students (Cayley Adams, Huiru Pang and Lukas Zander) will now be trained further to represent the school later in the term.

Emergency Drill.

In the next two weeks we will be undertaking a practice of our emergency processes. It will either be a lock down (Stranger) drill or an evacuation drill. Drills enable us to test our practices as well as giving the students a walkthrough of what they have to do. Hopefully, we will never need to do this for real, but a calm practice will hold us in good stead.

Thanking You

Lost Property

The lost property box is currently overflowing! Many of the items are not named and therefore unable to be returned to their rightful owners.

We also have a few students who have lost items that have been named but these have not yet been found.

Please clearly label ALL personal items and check regularly to see that your child is wearing their own jacket/hat.

If your child has mistakenly picked up another student’s jacket/hat please return them to the office and we will help find the owner.

Year 5 Camp

Our Year 5 students will be heading off to camp from the 15th – 17th August. We are now collecting permission forms and payments. Full payment is due by Friday 3 August, however if possible please send the permission notes back as soon as possible to enable planning for specific dietary or medical needs.
